Green Finance Landscape in ASEAN: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities

As Southeast Asia grapples with the dual challenges of climate vulnerability and sustainable development, green finance is emerging as a critical tool for mobilizing capital toward inclusive, low-carbon growth. "Green Finance Landscape in ASEAN: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities"—a joint effort by the Green Investment Principles (GIP) ASEAN Chapter, CSIS Indonesia, and Tenggara Strategics—offers a timely and comprehensive analysis of the region’s evolving sustainable finance ecosystem.

This report maps key developments across regulatory frameworks, governance structures, financial instruments, and regional dynamics. It highlights both the remarkable strides made—such as the adoption of the ASEAN Taxonomy and expansion of green bond markets—and the persistent challenges, including inconsistent policy enforcement and limited support for nature-based solutions.

Designed to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, this research aims to guide policymakers, financial institutions, and investors toward actionable strategies that enhance the scalability and integrity of green finance across ASEAN. We invite stakeholders from across the region and beyond to explore its insights and join in shaping a resilient, sustainable future for Southeast Asia.
